Our Country's Environmental Problem
페이지 정보

본문
There are relation between following's three examples and the environment. They are water pollution, air pollution and ozone pollution.
☞ Water Pollution
A recent study showed five rivers have a serious water pollution level of environmental hormones. The Civil Federation for Sea Preservation said Tuesday that the lower reaches of five rivers, including Nakdong, Seomjin, Yeongsan, and Geum River, were seriously polluted, causing degeneration in the ecosystem off the rivers, according to a survey on the degree of environmental hormones in the five river-mouths by a research team from five universities for the past six months.
☞ Air Pollution
The death rate of infants aged under one rises by 9% on days with a high degree of air pollution, while their fatalities from chest complaints increases by 202%, according to recent research by the medical college of Ewha Women’s University. Researchers also found that the number of infants suffering from asthma admitted to the hospital increases by 10% with the raised air pollution.
Warning of the peril of air pollution, the medical college will publish its results at a fall academic conference of the Korean Society for Preventive Medicine to be held at Mount Seolak.
☞ Ozone Pollution
Ozone poisoning is posing a rather serious threat to people in Seoul with symptoms being suffered by more and more people, who complain of headaches or dizziness. However, no direct measure to tackle the problem has been taken yet. There have been several such warnings in the past, but the concentration wasn't as dense, just slightly exceeding 0.12, though taxi drivers say that they feel headache on days that ozone warnings are issued.
The Ministry of Environment has announced a number of short and long term measures such as providing free checkups on car exhausts, strengthening the ozone warning system, reducing the incident of paving work of roads during winter times, operating buses running on low-pollution natural gas, and developing core technologies to reduce pollution generated by diesel vehicles.
However, some of these measures are mere paper plans, which lack feasibility. Effective ways to address the problem have not been crafted yet as their effectiveness is unknown.
Q1) There are three examples above. What kind of pollution do you want to add to them? And what do you think is the most serious problem about the environment in our country?
Q2) Do you think it is safe to drink the tap water in Korea?
Q3) Would you rather live in the city or in the country? (Telling your experiences are also good^^)
Q4) What do you think should be done to make clean environment? What can we do for clean environment?
