cyber love. Love What We Dream Forward To Someday

There's no denying the obsessive love people have for themselves. Just look at all the mirrors and portrait services in the world. Examples of self-love are spreading fast to the Internet world, too. Avatars - cyber characters created to look like their owners - crowd cyber chatting rooms, shopping malls and everywhere else online, multiplying faster than China's population.
Creating avatars, a word meaning incarnation or alter ego in Sanskrit and recalling mythical gods who visit earth in human form, is the newest trend among the X generation. Made in the mirror image of their users, avatars seem to satisfy the average Netizen's pride in their individuality.
"Young people today are very identity-driven, and they don't like being identified by ID numbers anymore. They want to actually see themselves in cyberspace," says Park So-jung of nClone, an avatar-making venture firm.
Now with help from a few smart-thinking venture businesses, Netizens can create anything from exact replicas to idealized versions of themselves for use in chatting online, browsing cyber shopping malls, personalizing e-mail, as one critic recently put it.
Just during the past three months, over a dozen Internet services dedicated to helping Netizens create avatars sprouted up, further fueling, or catering to, the trend. The services divide into two major groups - those specializing in photo avatars and those that offer create-your-own.
In fact, Korea's history of cyber characters has been very closely tied to teenagers. It all began with the cyber rocker Adam, who debuted in 1997 and soon racked up record sales that put most of his real-life contemporaries to shame.
And then there was the cyber character boom last year in which dozens of virtual doumi (the Korean word for helper) and Internet characters popped up on almost every major homepage in a transparent attempt to lure Net surfers.
There are now even special avatar events like online blind dates, where avatars meet other avatars, hook up for a cyber date in game rooms, and even get hitched.
"This is a market of infinite possibilities," some says casually, adding that the company's own plans call for the development of avatars for cell phone screens, which is expected to be a huge market in the near future.
