Fast food and cholesterol

Everyone has heard about cholesterol, and most know that fast foods and junk food have a lot of it. But what exactly is cholesterol and where does it come from?
Cholesterol is fat which found in all animals, including human beings. It is manufactured by our bodies. We also get it from certain foods that we eat, such as eggs, milk or meat. Cholesterol is the scientific name for the fatty oil which comes from animals.
Our bodies need a certain amount if cholesterol. It is necessary to keep the body's tissues and cells healthy. Doctors recommend that we consume about 300 milligrams a day, but eating more than that can be dangerous.
The excess cholesterol which our bodies don't need sticks to the insides of our blood vessels-the arteries. It is hard- like candle wax.
As the layers of cholesterol continue to build up more and more as we get older, the blood cannot flow freely through the arteries and the heart cannot get as much oxygen as it needs. The result is a heart attack, or if not enough oxygen gets through to the brain, a stroke.
Generally speaking, foods which are pan-fried, or deep fried in oil, such as fried chicken, donuts, or tti-gim, contain lots of cholesterol and besides putting fat into the blood, they also help to make a person fat. The average adult should take in no more than 60 grams of fat per day. Any more than that will contribute to making the person fat.
Some oils are worse than others. The bad ones, the ones which stick inside bloos vessels, are called saturated fats. They are found in animal products such as meat, eggs, milk and things made from milk, like cheese, ice cream and butter.
Unsaturated fats, such as soybean oil or corn oil, won't stick in the arteries, but they will also help a person to become fat.
Most young people don't worry about cholesterol very much, because they think that heart attacks are a problem only for old people. But they do worry about getting fat, and today with all the fast foods around, it's a problem for a lot of people.
You don't have to be old to think about the kinds of foods that you eat. Young people should remember that the foods they eat when they are young will help to determine the kinds of bodies they'll have when they are older.
Q1) How would you describe your eating habits?
* Very sensible. I don't eat very much fast food and junk food, and I try to eat foods which have many vitamins.
* I eat a lot of fast food and junk foods such as potato chips, donuts, fried chicken and pizza.
Q2) Do you care very much about the effects of cholesterol on your body? Why or why not?
Q3) Nowadays a lot of people don't eat breakfast because they are too busy. Do you ever skip breakfast? How important do you think it is to eat breakfast in the morning?
