What is you're love definition?
Love is an emotion that nearly everyone has experienced at some time in their life. One would think that with such a familiar concept, researchers would agree on what constitutes love and how to measure it. That has not been the case. Most research on love is based on a priori theoretical conceptualizations. It's quite possible that if a researcher starts out by defining love and then develops a measure to quantify that conceptualization, the results would tend to reflect this process.
There are many factors influencing our idea of the perfect mate, one of the most telling, is what is called our "lovemap" a group of messages fixed in our brains that describes our likes and dislikes. It shows our preferences in hair and eye color, in voice, smell, body build. It also records the kind of personality that appeals to us, whether it"s the warm and friendly type or the strong, silent type.
In short, we fall for and pursue those people who most clearly fit our lovemap. And this lovemap is largely determined in childhood. By age eight, the pattern for our ideal mate has already begun to float around in our brains. In many ways we want a mirror image of ourselves. Physically attractive people, for example, are usually drawn to a partner who"s equally attractive.
Sometimes we can be attracted to someone who doesn‘t fit our "ideal type" requirements. We can"t explain why we feel attraction to that person, it just seems that the "chemistry" is right. It"s also possible that we can find people who are very attractive physically and personality wise, but no chemistry seems to flow?
