Culture Why do you learn English?

본문

Everyone in Korea learn English. They don't just learn English as another language, but they do learn as if they don't, then they wouldn't be able to survive. But frankly, I don't see much reason why the majority of Korean should spend so much energy on learning it and not using it. So, my another question comes alive. 2.1. If you do think learning English is important and if you do spend that much energy into it, then do you also spend that much energy on using it, productively? Productive~~ meaning that you use it to be beneficial to your own good, and not just paying off some money to some institutes to have an opportunity to speak English.
Examples of being productive could be...that you could do a real business in English which leads to your goal on your life, or you could actually participate in some English speaking organization which again related to your real life goal. I guess having some penpals is also being productive if your enjoyment comes from having friends around the world. Or even travelling around the world to expand your views will be a good candidate.
2.2. If you do spend so much time learning English, but you never use it, then do you think you will ever be able to use it someday? - again, for your own good and I don't mean just once, but on someday, do you think learning English will eventually pay off all the effort that you have put? -
2.3. If you think there may never be an opportunity that you will ever take an advantage of the effort you put on English, then do you still think learning English is important?
2.4. If you still do think learning English is important, or you wouldn't stop learning English, then what is the reason? or What are the reasons..?
A) Because, if I don't reach a certain level on English, then the company may never hire me, or I may have a disadvantage climbing up on the ladder once I'm at the company.
B) Although I may never speak English with a single person, there are still a bunch of documents written in English that I have to read.
C) Because, everybody does. I do feel bad if I do not follow what everybody does.
D) An Insurance purpose. I do not know what else are as important as this, but do know that I may get a disadvantage sometime in my life, if I'm not well prepared.
E) Any other reason? Please feel free to state.
:)

I personally think learning English is crucial for most people in a time like this. These days, all the industries are globilized and we have to compete in order to survive. we can't just alienate ourselves from the rest of the world. Granted, English is not the only popular language in the world, but so many people use and learn English these days to the extent that it's not too much say that English is the official language in international organizations.
2.1 I'm studying abroad so I'm virtually using English all the time and obviously the efforts that I had to made to learn english are paying off. Well, I guess that makes me an exception to all the other questions.
I just wanted to say my opinions about why learning English is important for individuals, but I'm not sure if you wanted to debate but had to followe the format, or just wanted to get public opinion. If you could make it clear, I will reply right away.
