Society Cruelty to animals

It appears that there is no distinct end when it comes to animal cruelty. Recently, a Buddhist monk killed a dog for barking late at night, and school girls dissected abandoned animals for their biology class. As expected, a major controversy surrounding animal cruelty has surfaced once again. Countless civic groups and animal advocates are gathering to bring legal action. Cyber space and social networking websites are filled with debates after the Coexistence of Animal Rights on Earth posted a video clip and photos of the two cases on its official website
Animal advocates say a weak law-enforcement system is to blame for a rise in cases of animal cruelty. According to sources, the monk at Choenyon Temple in Busan killed the barking dog on December 11, 2011. A nearby surveillance camera captured the footage, and it was submitted by an unidentified person from the civic group.
A sea of wildfire has bombarded the temple as people criticized the monk who should have loved and cared for another life. The dog’s owner is said to be suffering from trauma after losing his beloved pet in such a ridiculous manner.
Although animal lovers have called for a thorough investigation by police, there has been slow progress in apprehending the suspect. The police have stamped the case as mere damage to private property rather than taking a strong stance against animal cruelty.
So far, the name of the school that dissected the abandoned dogs hasn’t been revealed to the public. A student stuck a tube into a dog’s lungs and blew to see if the lungs expanded. Another student pulled out a uterus from another abandoned dog.
Teachers explained that the experiment was to study the internal organs of mammals and understand how they function. In response, animal advocates argued that such an educational program is irrational and unnecessary.
There is concern because even veterinary students at universities conduct such dissection only when it is highly necessary. There is no reason for school girls to be educated in such a way. People are concerned that such education may turn the students to become numb to animal abuse as they grow up. The group lodged a complaint with the Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education that oversees the school.
